About the organisation
The Centre for Economic Data and Analysis (CEDA) has been set up by the Economics Department of Ashoka University with the primary objective of facilitating informed data-driven debate and discussion about issues of social and economic development in India. CEDA’s data portal hosts data from various administrative and official surveys of India, covering fields such as demography, employment as well as health, at the state and district levels. CEDA’s aim is to put data at the forefront when it comes to understanding the social, political and economic realities of India.

About the position

About the position We are looking to hire a Research Analyst to analyse Indian socioeconomic data (housed on the CEDA data portal and otherwise) to write data-based articles for the CEDA website. The articles will range from short data narratives on current affairs to long deep-dive comprehensive coverage on critical issues of the Indian economy. The work will also involve planning the data visualisations for the written pieces. Additionally, the Analyst will be expected to provide data and research support to other authors and for CEDA’s social media communication.

Required qualifications
Postgraduate (or higher) degree in Economics, with a proven familiarity with statistics and an understanding of quantitative data
Proficiency with either STATA/R/Python and familiarity of working with unit-level data of large-scale surveys (such as the NFHS, PLFS and different rounds of the NSS)
Proficiency in writing in English
1-2 years of previous work experience is desirable, though not mandatory candidate
Ideal candidate
Is familiar with and interested in working on key and emerging socio-economic issues impacting India
Is interested in sharpening their writing and data analysis skills
Cares for rigour, depth and the finer details across tasks
Demonstrates a strong professional work ethic and is able to work independently without the need for micromanagement
Is open to learning and acquiring new skills
